Description
Fridays | 10:30am – 1:00pm
Starting Friday 11th September 2026
A five-week exploration of drawing designed to expand your visual vocabulary, technical skills and creative confidence through a combination of artist references, practical exercises and hands-on experimentation.
Each week introduces a different approach to drawing, drawing inspiration from both historical and contemporary practices. You’ll explore how artists have used materials, line, tone and mark-making to create character, depth and atmosphere — while developing your own individual approach along the way.
Techniques explored include:
Silverpoint — explore the delicate, precise technique used by Renaissance masters, with lessons inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings.
- Classical Cartooning — discover the principles of expressive line, form and character through traditional cartooning techniques.
- Indian Ink — experiment with bold lines, tonal contrast and fluid mark-making using this versatile medium.
- Pouncing / Spolvero — learn the fascinating Italian Renaissance technique used by artists to transfer drawings onto surfaces.
- Classical Sepia Tones — explore the warm, atmospheric tonal techniques associated with the Old Masters.
This course is an opportunity to look beyond conventional drawing methods, discover the history behind each technique and develop a richer, more personal drawing language.
