For each of the past 19 years the talented students of Dublin Art Classes have been holding an Art Exhibition to raise funds to support local charities in the Dublin Area.
A professional artist and Founder of Dublin Art Classes, which was established in 2002. An avid art education advocate, my institution is now the leading private art school on Dublin’s Northside. With a robust academic background in Fine Art from Senior College Ballyfermot in Dublin, and Crawford College in Co Cork, I also studied the History of Art at Trinity College. To balance my classical training, I completed courses in Graphic Design and Animation from Blackrock College.
At Dublin Art Classes, we believe that with guidance and mentorship, anyone can create their own masterpiece. It may seem intimidating to start creating art, but it’s a challenge that is worth tackling. Our instructor, Catherine Lawlor, is passionate about helping her students push their boundaries and explore their creativity through a variety of painting and drawing classes for all skill levels.
For each of the past 19 years the talented students of Dublin Art Classes have been holding an Art Exhibition to raise funds to support local charities in the Dublin Area.
In February 2020, in a new and exciting departure, I was delighted to be hosting the Inaugural Catherine Lawlor School of Art Valentine’s Ball & Art Exhibition in association with the Marie Keating Foundation. This unique event was held on Saturday, February 15th in the Ballsbridge Hotel, Pembroke road, Dublin 4.
This was an exciting and entertaining event for everyone involved and it entailed an elegant reception coupled with an exhibition of a wonderful selection of over 160 pieces of artwork. The night’s events included a sumptuous dinner, grand auction, raffle and spot prizes, along with amazing entertainment.
The MC for the night was the great Shay Byrne from RTE. Some of the students’ artwork, in addition to some other artwork donated by professional Irish artists were auctioned during the ball.
Notable artists who attended the ball were Katherine Geoghegan, Ronan Goti, John Nolan, and Robert Shaw.
This event was a great success and very much enjoyed by all involved. The event itself presented event sponsors, local businesses and the general public with an opportunity to support a charity that does so much good across Ireland and to local communities.
In 2020, the School was honoured with a nomination for the The JCI Fingal Friendly Business Awards. JCI Fingal seeks to recognise, promote, and reward the vital role small and medium businesses play in the local economy. The ceremony was hosted in the O’Carolan Suite, Grand Hotel, Malahide and proudly sponsored by Fingal County Council.
Small to medium businesses deserve recognition for when they go that extra mile and we were delighted to be part of the celebrations. Guests enjoyed a canapé and prosecco reception on the night, offering a fantastic opportunity to meet and greet other businesses in the Fingal area.
To raise more money in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation, Dublin Art Classes was overjoyed to receive a large-scale commission from Thorntons Pianos based in Finglas, Dublin to collaborate on a joint creative project. We were entrusted to transform a 1980 Challen Upright Piano worth €2,695 into something special.
The theme for the project was “The White Album by the Beatles”, incorporating the iconic Abbey Road image. With initial planning of around 30 days, the project took 4 artists from the school over 72 hours to implement. The ‘pimped’ piano was featured in Hotpress magazine.
Through this commission we were able to raise €1650 for a fantastic cause. We were honoured to work with Thornton’s on such an important and interesting project and look forward to more projects like this in the future.
