Dublin Art Classes takes art to the streets with Ireland AM

Dublin Art Classes was delighted to be invited by Ireland AM to join their adventurous weather host, Deric Ó h’Artagáin, on the show for a very special outdoor painting session in the heart of Dublin.

Our team of experienced painters, alongside Dublin Art Classes founder and artist Catherine Lawlor, set up an en plein air painting session outside one of Dublin’s most recognisable landmarks — the iconic General Post Office (GPO) on O’Connell Street.
Despite the early start, morning rush hour and typically blustery Dublin weather, our artists were ready to put paint to canvas!
Working alongside her students, Catherine explored how to capture the architectural beauty and character of the GPO using shape, tone and value. By carefully observing the building’s structure, light and shadows, the artists were able to create a sense of depth and space within their paintings while capturing an important piece of Dublin’s architectural heritage.

The session certainly attracted attention, with plenty of curious passersby stopping to see what the artists were creating. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring art out of the studio and into the streets, allowing the public to see the creative process unfold right before their eyes.

Braving the morning elements to capture such an iconic part of Dublin’s history made the day a huge success. It was a wonderful reminder that inspiration can be found everywhere — sometimes all you need is a canvas, a few paints and the courage to set up your easel in the middle of a busy Dublin morning!

A huge thank you to Ireland AM, Deric Ó h’Artagáin and everyone who stopped to chat, watch and support our artists.

We loved bringing Dublin Art Classes outdoors and sharing our passion for painting with the city.
