Henry McGrane is widely recognised for his atmospheric Irish landscapes, capturing the quiet character of land and sky with sensitivity and balance.
Born in 1969, he trained at Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design before beginning his professional career in animation. His early work brought him to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked with 20th Century Fox Studios while continuing to develop his painting practice under respected American artists.
After several years working internationally, including time in Norway and Spain, he returned to Ireland to focus fully on painting.
Although Henry works across a number of genres, landscape painting has become central to his practice. His Irish scenes are particularly admired for their strong compositional structure, sense of depth and confident handling of paint. There is a clear understanding of perspective and tone in his work, along with an ability to turn everyday rural views into something quietly compelling.
His paintings are now widely collected across Ireland, the UK and the United States.
Being in the room with a professional artist as they work is a rare opportunity. You witness the pace, the choices and the assurance that comes from years of experience. Even without knowing exactly what will be painted on the day, there is always something valuable to take away.
For painters, it’s inspiring.
For students, it’s educational.
For anyone who enjoys painting, it’s a great way to spend a morning.
